InfoAuthor: Tod Bouris, Tony FabrisHomepage: http://www.planetquake.com/lavaball In the not-too distant future, a violent game called LavaBall is the most popular sport on the planet. A circular arena similar to a roller derby rink is walled in with high-impact plexiglass. Goals are placed at head-height at either end of the rink. A heavy steel ball is shot from a cannon, and rolls around the rink, gradually losing speed. Armored players enter the rink wearing inline skates. Players attempt to be the first to scoop up the ball and stuff it into the correct goal. Inside the rink, it's a no-holds-barred free for all. Players take each other out with their bare hands. The ball itself is a useful weapon as it weighs several pounds, and can crush a skull right through a fiberglass helmet. The lower portion of the rink is a lava moat (hence the name). Part of the player's challenge is attempting to stay out of the moat while simultaneously knocking members of the opposing team into it. The team is awarded points when its members kill an opposing player, but the team's primary purpose is to score goals. The team's total points are displayed on live scoreboards hanging above the rink. Players can skate across small bridges into the center of the rink to pick up first-aid packs during the game. Game play continues without interruption, so many players prefer to continue playing even when injured. When a player dies, his soul is resurrected in a new body. That player can re-enter the game from the locker room (or, depending on the rink design, from the center of the rink) when he is ready. taken from the official website
